Congrats

Tob for the third place in the 4k intro combo at the Evoke 2004 (results)! Where is your blog entry!?

Your are a nerd...

... if you find a photo that you and one of your friends edited over a year ago and you think the real funny part is that this was at 13:37... (Medha: Remember that wanted picture of Helgar?)

Olympic Games 2004

Today the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens came to an end. Since I had to study differential equations and numerics for an exam coming next week I had plenty of time to watch the games ;-) The games were pretty good. Of course Germany could have done better if you look only at the medals (if the riding medals would not have been taken away...), but overall it was fun to watch the games when lying in my bed in the evening.

The opening ceremony was great. Anne and I watched in in Cologne and we were impressed. And having a small globe for searching countries even the two hours when the teams came into the stadium where ok. We found it pretty cool that they tried to appeal the "one planet" feeling in the short movies. Of course you could think of this as the time that mankind celebrated itself and then got overwhelmed by the bad robots. But as part of a RoboCup team I can assure you that we are not even anything close to that...

The closing ceremony was interesting. I think even through the TV I could feel some of the "olympic spirit".

I like the games and I'm already looking forward for the next event in Beijing.

24

Finally I'm 24 now. I passed the Illuminatus year without too much hassle ;-) Thanks to all who send messages via one of communication methods (this makes me wait for real unified messaging where I get all messages on one device and not on half a dozen).

Some friends with epsilon hull where here and we had barbecue and some therapy. Was a nice evening, thanks guys!

The Curse of Monkey Island

I'm staying with Anne in Cologne for a week. She has only a modem dialup (=> slow and expensive internet) which is a better environment for learning for my coming math exam...
Last weekend we had some fun playing the third Monkey Island game. I gave it to her a couple of years ago when I was attending civil service... Now she wanted to play it again. So first I tried WINE. Installation went fine but it always gave an error about missing DirectX 5 when I tried to start the game. So I surfed around and finally came up with using ScummVM which is a virtual machine for the Scumm engine originally invented for Maniac Mansion and now powering most of the LucasArts adventures... This worked damn good! Today we finished COMI and I looking for MI1 and MI2 :-)
