What the CeBIT is good for
A good indicator for the current economic situation of the IT industry is how many give-aways you have in your pockets after a CeBIT visit. Several years ago you could hardly carry all the gizmos. But within the last years you got less and less... But one little item I got really helped me today: Last year I got a key fob that you can wear around your neck with the keys dangling before your body. It has lots of freenet.de commercials on it. But why has it been helpful? "Sure, to carry keys!" you might say. No, not this time. I used it to fix a broken shutter in the kitchen. Really! I forgot the data cable so no pic right now. But it works :-)
Let's see what little give-away I get this year and what I can fix with it next time :-)

Blackout
Stopped working. Went downhill. Shopping. Forgot garbage bags. Back shopping. Come home. Want to eat. Turn on lights. Lights off. Power down. Server offline. *argh*. Tired. Bed.

Wonderful saturday
Although you should not count your chickens before they are hatched I think this will be a good saturday. At least it had a good start. I have slept long. When I got up, my father was already working on his PC. To understand the really strange situation you have to know that he started using his computer just last year (and before this he wanted not even to learn how to turn it off...). Now he really likes OpenOffice and Google (and using Linux makes it easy for him, compared to the Windoze machine at work). "There's so much information on the net, why didn't I know this earlier" he always complains.
And so I took my notebook and I'm now sitting in our living room upstairs (my brother's and mine, Linux router, Linux PC, 4 monitors, TV, almost all you need :-), the sounds of Command & Conquer coming from the room next door (my little brother) is playing with his friend... I'm coding some lines and the rain is plashing against the window. I like those saturdays.

Just to tease the Buck
Let's see what happens if I add the Word Kultursplitter (which will take place at the lvd) to this page :-)

The new Bahn fee system really sucks
I didn't want to believe it. When the Bahn applied their new fee system in August last year everybody screamed... I was happy that I at least got the Bahncard 50 (get 50% off of all tickets) which make traveling home every weekend cheaper. But today I tried to get the price for a ticket to the CeBIT this year. There seems to be no table describing all the discounts you may get and combine, or how to apply them (first the 25%, then 50%, other way around, apply to reduced price or to full price...). You have to crawl through several pages and extract the discounts from the raw text... The automated travel planner can not even handle these discounts. This is really the first fee system I have seen... These are my five cents and nobody will listen *argh*
