I see stupid people
A nice reading about really stupid people is the Petition (there is also a German version of the petition) written by Frédéric Bastiat (see also Wikipedia about Frédéric Bastiat and a german page). I thought we learned from the past, but all the burble about SCO makes me think different...

Processes are like a zoo
After playing Need for Speed Underground for with the Buck for several hours we gained a deep philosical understanding of the surrounding world...
Processes - as they are childs of your init - are like a zoo. You have to feed them, you have to look at them, you sometimes need a person to fix them, and when running too long without being cared about they may get some kind of spleen...
After finally getting to bed at about 6am and getting up again at about 12am I'm looking for a nasty bug in one of my apps. The Buck has also awakened and is searching for bugs in his zoo now. He is especially a friend of the snakes, the pythons to be precise.

The lazy Buck
To correct a false accusation I have to say that I could just use the Buck's password to gain access to his VNC because he did not change it (after I initially set it)... And they (Buck, Medha, Tob) thought that NFSU was more important than answerung my ICQ messages. There had to be done something about it ;-)

Medha is reliable
Yes, I opened this page to add an entry to my blog. I used Medhas machine at his job at the RBI Aachen. Then he came back. I did not have a logout button for my page yet. And I left the browser logged in. And in fact Medha resisted to add an entry to this blog :-)

Nice Paris trip!
As I mentioned earlier Anne and me went to Paris to welcome the new year. And it was great! We waited, we ran, we paid too much money for way too less hot chocolat but we really enjoyed the trip!
We had a nice small room in Hotel Astor in Suresnes in the West of Paris.
On the first day we went to the Eiffel Tower. We arrived at about 15:40 and waited for about one and a half hour to get to the second floor. Of course that is not enough and we wanted (ok, mostly I wanted) to get to the top floor. But then we had to change lifts at the second floor. This took us about 30 more minutes waiting to get a lift. At about 18:00 we finally arrived at the top. Paris at night from the Eiffel Tower is really worth a look or two :-)
On the second day we went to the Louvre Museum and visited one of the seven departments and saw the Mona Lisa. After that we took the Metro to visit Notre Dame. The Gargoyles are pretty impressive and all the little figures - each different to all others.
We also went to the Catacombs. In the 18th and 19th centuries they brought the bones of about six million people down there. There is a 1.7 km long walk 25m deep with walls of bones. An eye-opener, definitely.
Then we had a nice evening at an restaurant in the Quartier Latin. I got a really good steak and a Cesar salad. Hmmm :-)
During the turn of the year we were at the Eiffel Tower. Getting there and getting home afterwards was really an adventure. Thousands of people in the Metro that tried the same as we did: In 2003 get to the Eiffel Tower and in 2004 get back home or to the hotel... Fortunately they do not have light barriers to prevent people to get squeezed in the doors - otherwise they want close. I just need to take care of all party of my body to be inside the tube when the doors closed... But that's something you have to have at least one time :-)
On the last day we went to the Champ Elysees. It was snowing and so we decided to drink a hot chocolate in one of the Cafes - and it was really expensive...
A happy new year to all who came across and really read all of our Silvester 2003/2004 :-)
