Freaks!

I just found out about some strange activity going on: Geocaching. It's some kind of high-tech stash hunt where you hide some special items in a waterproof box somewhere and then give hints to others and they have to find it... There is also a nice German site about Geocaching.

OpenSource Install Party

Yes, yesterday we had the OpenSource Install Party. We Linuxified several new machines (interestingly only one PC, notebooks otherwise!) an we had a lot of fun. We heard about some of the Problems of the SunSITE. On the one hand are technical problems (they are working on a Gigabit connection now to fit the needs) and the "propaganda" problems that arise when companies like Sun offer their Staroffice for free for students which tend to forget then about the free Software it is based on (OpenOffice) in this case... I personally learned a bit about booting FreeBSD and bad looking backgrounds :-) in the end we made it a Mini-GPG-key-signging Party and now I got some verifiers for my key... Get the current key on my page or on the DFN Keyserver (which is synced with the MIT Keyserver. It was a really cool day. I will put only some photos soon.

Computer-Science-Day

Today we had the Computer-Science-Day 2003 at the Department of Computer Science at the RWTH Aachen. We presented our Robocup robots. You could control one of them manually via a joystick and try to hit the goal which Hector, the goal keeper, was protecting. There were 8 goals that Hector did not get. There were several interesting projects presented and a competition to write software agents for Pengobahn. They made a really cool engine to present parts of the end games (3D-Engine with sounds, audio comment and Matrix-style slow-motion scenes!)... Yes it was a good day.

SQL Fun

Want to have some fun with SQL? Have a look at SQL Zoo. This is really useful and I bet didactically well made :-)

I like FreeS/WAN!

Yes, I really do. I am logged in to my parents machine at home via VPN. Now the router at home got disconnected (it's an ADSL-line), the router reconnected, the VPN got reinitialized (using IPsec monitor) and the SSH connection is still alive! That is how I want my net working :-)
