Incredible
We went to the cinema in the Netherlands (which is not as far from Aachen as it sounds, in fact this means about a 20 minute drive by car) to watch The Incredibles. Great movie, watch it!
I'm preparing myself for an exam last week that I did incredible little for... Hope that works out or it could jeopardize our Scotland plans for August. We'll see.
And I have been incredibly surprised to get an email from an old school friend. Interesting to see how lives evolve and how little the world is - my friend A found me through a link on Buck's website that links at the same time to another friend B that friend A knows directly and I through Buck - while knowing A directly of course. Should paint this or nobody will understand...

Unnumbered
Last week we bought a new external (USB 2.0) DVD burner at work. I thought it would be a nice idea to test how it works with my FC3 notebook (Thinkpad T41p) and plugged it in. Whoooosh. Notebook wiped out. After 3 minutes fiddling around it finally came up again - and the USB ports were burned.
After calling the service IBM send a technician two days later (I bought an eServicePac to have them come to me in case of trouble). He exchanged the motherboard immediately. In less than an hour I had my USB back. Nice. But then he asked me to get my floppy drive. What floppy drive!? So he couldn't "update my BIOS" he told me. In fact he didn't restore the type and serial number of the notebook. So now the notebook is now unnumbered - contrary to my dog...

Summed up
There are a couple of things from the last two weeks that I wanted to blog, now I finally do.
On the trip back from Cologne to Aachen I took the subway. I only have to go four stations. But after the second station the train had to stop and did a complete shutdown. The driver called it a technical problem he had to solve to be able to go on. Then he rebooted the train (showing version information in the destination display - and the ticket machine went down preventing me from paying for the show) and we could drive to the next station - where he rebooted the train again. Welcome to the WINning world of tomorrow's trains...
I bought a table soccer game. It really rocks and we already had some fun playing it. The downside of this is that the table is pretty big and takes a lot of space in my new room. I decided to try it for a couple of weeks and then see if I want to keep it.
There is the asian earthquake disaster everywhere in the press. You get spammed on all news broadcasters with the newest and worst new home videos they bought from some tourist that was there. Of course they have to make up a story to get enough viewers for their stories. But being at least a little bit more objective would be a relief. There are some helpers from the red cross and the like that I really listen to and that seem kind of overwhelmed from the devastation over there. But most of the questions they are asked are just stupid or of such a general kind that every somebody could answer...
Right now with all the horrible story over there I'm feeling confident that these could be a starter for some people to talk to each other that didn't do that for a long time - like the USA and the rest of the world...
Time to get some sleep.
